She began acting in television in the late 1990s and has since appeared in numerous films including The Woods, Blue Car Murder by Numbers Blood and Chocolate as well as The Anna Nicole Story. Bruckner began her acting career when she was 11 years old. Bruckner was a part of a variety of commercials, television pilots and the soap show The Bold and the Beautiful during the daytime in 1999. Bruckner was first seen in a role at the age 15 in Blue Car (2002). Bruckner played a girl in high school involved in an affair between her teacher, played by David Strathairn. Roger Ebert said that Bruckner handled this complex script with aplomb. Her role in the film was selected at the Independent Spirit Awards for "Best Female lead". Her upbringing included three siblings, one brother and two sisters. They regularly practiced Hungarian to maintain her proficiency. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father as well as a Russian mother, who later divorced her paternal grandfather was German. The couple were married in Hungary and moved into the U.S. in 1984 through the refugee camp located in Italy. There are two sisters and a younger brother.
